"Lyrical", an abstract by Manisha Vedpathak

Came across this painting while I was going through my old
sold paintings. Felt inspired to do something in that style again
and came up with this painting. May do some more in this
style with different color combination.
Here is the old one ,followed by  the new one...

Reworked painting....by Manisha Vedpathak

An old painting, " Window to the soul" reworked. Sometimes when you go through your old paintings you feel like adding or substracting some elements  in it.

Acrylic on canvas, Acrylic on canvas, 12.6"x32.28"
A close up . Love the texture that is seen.

"Kunku".....an abstract figurative by Manisha Vedpathak

"Kunku"
Acrylic on canvas
This painting was inspired from one of my Indian
friends who always  wear this "Kunku " on her forehead.
"Kunku" is a Marathi word for the red powder
that most of the married  Indian ladies wear on the forehead.
It is known by various names in different languages in India,
for example Kumkum in Hindi, Kunkumam in Tamil  etc.
This painting is just a practice while a big one is in process.

"Scattered"...An Abstract by Manisha Vedpathak

A day after I started this painting ,we got a bad news from India.
One of my husband's college friend passed away due to cardiac
attack. The news deeply disturbed us. This guy was so health
conscious and was very fit and was leading a nice happily married life.
But that's life I believe, which turns a somebody into nobody in a
fraction of seconds. I was not able to concentrate ,was thinking about
the news ,was very upset. I wanted to throw out the emotional
negativity from my mind and in such a situation , meditation is a good solution.
But I am not that kind of a person to relax your body and focus your mind.
So I preferred my way of meditation, and that is painting.
Whole time while painting I kept  struggling to remove the thing
bothering me, out of my mind. So I allowed my untamed mind to race
over all places on canvas and scatter. Thus the title "Scattered".

An Acrylic painting.Chain Links...An Adinkra symbol used by Ashanti People

Chain Links..An Adinkra symbol.
Acrylic on canvas,16" * 24"
This is one more symbol used by Ashanti people
from Ghana,West Africa.I have done one symbol
earlier called Gye Nyame. You can find the image in
my earlier posts. The meaning of this symbol is unity
and human relations. In unity lies strength.
These are visual symbols and represent concepts
There are many different symbols with distinct
meanings often linked with proverbs originally
created by Akans of Ghana and Gyaman of
Cote d'Ivoire in West Africa.
I may try some more in the same abstract style.

Pastel Hearts..acrylic painting on canvas

Pastel Hearts
Acrylic painting on canvas,11.8" *23.6" ,sides 1.5"deep
This is an old canvas which I tranformed
into hearts painting.
I had given this canvas to my daughter in
her holidays because she wanted to try her
hand on color pour technique.I gave her
total freedom and bought some fluid acrylic
paints . She used a lot of colours on the canvas.

Eventually she got tired, didn't like the outcome
and abandoned the piece.Last week I decided
to try some oil pastels to scribble on it
but I felt incompleteness in the painting
and used some acrylic to draw hearts.
Now I am satisfied ...I hope you all enjoy this
piece as I do.

Protect your King ....the game of chess!! - An acrylic painting

Protect your King....the game of chess
Acrylic on canvas,27.55" * 34.25"
I am sure many of you are  familiar with the game of chess.
Did you know that chess was originated in India.
It was called CHATURANGA.
Chatur meaning four and anga meaning parts. The
game was in fact a battleplan drawn on a smaller
scale to find out ways and means of outsmarting
the enemy. The king is the most important piece.
Although he has limited mobility,if your king is
captured  you loose the game.An empire is defeated
when the emperor is captured. Therefore the king
has to be protected or you loose the game.

An Abstract

I havn't thought of any title for this
painting. In the top left corner you
will notice eyes painted. It so happened
that after finishing the painting I stood
back looking at it to check if I have really
done with it.And I found this round
shape which looked like a girl's face
with hair falling on her left and I
couldn't resist to draw those eyes.
I am not sure if it looks good...what do
say friends?

Kathakali on panel

I had painted these two small mask
paintings some time ago and they were
just lying around. So I decided to
fix it on a long panel and painted the
panel.

These paintings are of the mask of
the Kathakali dance which is the most
well known dance drama from the south
Indian state of Kerala. The word Kathakali
literally means "Story-Play".  It is known
for its large, elaborate makeup and costumes.
Kathakali is usually performed only by men.
The actors rely very heavily on hand
gesture to convey the story.

Playful Duo !!

Next in African Series.
I have tried to make the figure
 bold on my abstract background.
I started the figure with color pour
and then added white color to the
dress concluding with the outlining.

painting which I am sure will take a little time.
The painting in this post was left half done in 2011.
and finished last week
I have always loved parrots. We find green parrots
in India and they look so beautiful, but I like these
colorful ones that are mostly found in tropical
rainforest. The one I painted are Scarlet Macaws.
